Memphis Belle

1/48 Boeing B-17F Memphis Belle
This months review is on the 1/48 scale, Revell of Germany, Memphis Belle. The Memphis Belle is easily the most famous B-17 Flying Fortress ever built. Flown by Captain Robert Morgan, it was the very first B-17 in the Eighth Air Force to survive 25 missions. It has inspired two movies, which are the 1944 documentary, Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, and the 1990 movie Memphis Belle. The plane itself is now under restoration at Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio. The model is A great addition to anyones collection. It's instructions are not the best, but they are good enough to follow at a slow pace. It does not have as much interior as the B-17G model for those of you who love detail. It is a skill level 5 but the only real challenge is the painting as it requires a distinct camouflage pattern. It is a little pricey too. It costs around $35 when the B-17G costs about $25. I personally would All in all it is a great model which I would give a 4 of a possible 5 stars. I hope that you enjoyed reading this review. My next review will be out on December 8th.

B-29 Superfortress

1/48 Scale Monogram B-29 Superfortress
This month's review is on the Revell 1/48 scale B-29 Superfortress. It has a wingspan of 35 inches, a length of 24 inches, and has over 105 parts including a five man ground crew and pieces to build the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan. (The bombs are not mentioned in the instructions, but trust me they're included). And it is HEAVY. It weighs about 2 lb. It is a fairly easy build it took me two days, but can take a longer or shorter time depending on how well you want the quality. It also has two marking options for one plane that served in the Korean War, and the another served in World War II. One is "Cream of the Crop" (Korea) and the other is "Humpin' Honey" (WWII). I chose to customize mine as the "Enola Gay". (See Lower Photo) Since the plane is so big and heavy, it needs a stand is needed in the rear to support it. The stand included in the kit snaps really easily so I put a custom one on my plane. The propellors spin better than any other model I own. It takes up a TON of space, so be sure you have enough space for it before you buy it. All in all it is a great model and a fun build. I give it a 4 out of 5 star rating. Well that's all for now. I'll have another review out next month.

Happy Building!!!

New Policy

Hi everyone! First of all this is not a review. I just wanted to let you all know that as of now, I will only be publishing one review per month. This is due to not having enough time to purchase and build more models to review. If I didn't slow down, I'd be out of models and therefor out of business. Well that about wraps this up.

Happy Building!

B-24D Liberator

1/48 B-24D Liberator Today's review is on the Revell 1/48 scale B-24D Liberator. The kit has 167 parts and a length of 17 inches and a 27 inch wingspan. As shown in the photo to the right the set includes the bomber and ground crew jeep. Also included are a 5 man ground crew and a crew for the plane itself which include a pilot, copilot, two waist gunners, and a bombardier. It can be customized as either "Fightin' Sam" or "Jerk's Natural". "Fightin' Sam" survived the war and it's nose is now on display at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, Georgia. "Jerk's Natural" participated in the Ploesti Oil Field Raid,  but was eventually lost in a mission to Austria on October 1, 1943. The kit is a fairly easy build and is perfect for a second or third model. It is a very nice model but the guns are VERY fragile. (I discovered that the hard way.) It is pretty easy to display and perfect for a diorama. However it can take up a lot of space and I barely have enough space as it is. So depending on how you plan to display it, it could take up a lot or a little space. All in all I rate it  3 1/2 out of 5 stars as it is not my number one favorite and it doesn't do very much (the only parts that move are the two turrets). However I do recommend this kit to any World War II model builders. Especially the bomber enthusiasts. I will have more reviews out shortly. In the mean time, Happy Building!

B-17 Flying Fortress

1/48 Scale B17-G Flying Fortress
Here's my first review! The topic is the Revell B-17G Flying Fortress. It is 19 inches long, with a wingspan of 26 inches. It is a skill level 2 and can be purchased for around $25. The model also includes a five man ground crew, and four bombs which can be either glued in the bomb bay, or placed on a bomb cart included with the kit. It took me about 2 days to build but can take a longer or shorter time depending on how well you want the quality. It has 2 marking options. One is El Lobo II which served in the 457th bomb group's 748 squadron based in Glatton England. El Lobo II is the one shown is the photo. The other is Chow Hound which served in the 91st bomb group's 322 squadron. The kit is fairly easy to build with only a few areas to watch during assembly such as gluing the fuselage and the nose turret. For gluing the fuselage, I recommend test fitting the two halves before applying glue. I also recommend using several rubber bands to hold it together while the glue is drying. As for the nose turret, pay close attention to the instructions. I personally think the turret installation could have thought out better and I ended up gluing the turret in place (which you are not supposed to do) on both of my two B-17s. Luckily for me, one of them can still turn even though it still falls out every once in a while. All in all it is a great model and I give it 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5. I highly recommend it to any World War II model builders and any model builders. That about finishes my todays review. I'll have more out soon.

Happy Building!!!
